Volkstrauertag: Rememberance Day in Germany

Young people working with visual artist Siobhan Tarr in Germany explore the German tradition of Volkstrauertag.

Inspired by a competition call out organised by Lauenburg Arts Initiative, the call out invited artists to consider the meaning of Volkstrauertag and the role of War Memorials in general.

”..artists were asked to come up with their artistic ideas of what a contemporary “volkstrauertag” could look like. What could a central war memorial for the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg  look like?” Siobhan Tarr.

Talks will be held 16th November  at a symposium considering  the whole culture of remembrance and the chosen artists ideas  will be presented at the symposium together with the various art projects with young people, including work from this Mail Art project.
